Congratulations!! to the U14 Boys Monarchs Gold. 2010 James Yoviene Memorial Tournament Champions! Members of the Monarchs U-12 Boys and U12 Girls teams Take the championship at the Kenton 4 v 4 Tournament Seven members of the u-12 boys team, won the championship of the inaugural Kenton Soccer Club 4v4 tournament the weekend of June 5th. The players advanced undefeated through the round robin portion of the tournament by beating Empire United, Grand Island and the host Kenton team. The Monarchs were matched up against West Seneca in the final match which they won 4-3 in OT. The Monarchs never led in the final until the final tally by Shane Green. The Monarchs trailed by two before half time when Matt Bull tallied twice to even the score. West Seneca scored again and looked destined for victory, when with less than 1 minute to go, Erik Szabala went around the West Seneca goal keeper and with an empty net staring at him, was tackled from behind and awarded a penalty kick. He tied the game with a beautiful shot just inside the post. West Seneca was forced to play OT a man down as the player who tackled Erik was assessed a red Card. Nate Tomasik and Nyles Linsley provided strong pressure on the opponents during the tournament, while Felix Yeager and Will Smith added superior goaltending. The u-12 boys would like to send out a special thank you to the Monarchs’ girls team, as their cheers helped provide a spark in the final match. U12 Girls finish undefeated!
The team was made up of players (8) from my U12 Gold team. The girls competed in four 4v4 (+GKs) games. They went 4-0 scoring 34 goals and only allowing 7 to win the championship for their age bracket. Do you need a new full uniform, a warm-up, or any other individual Hamburg Monarch's gear? please download the order form found here. or as PDF Travel Team selection process To Parents and Players of the Hamburg Monarchs Soccer Club Travel teams,
First and foremost, let us congratulate all of the players on a very good effort during tryouts. They made it very hard to make decisions on where all of the boys/girls should be placed. With that being said, all of our teams are going to be very competitive. The teams will now be known as either the Hamburg Monarchs Gold (highest division team) or the Hamburg Monarchs Emerald (second division team).
Cuts: Unfortunately, we did have to make cuts (in some age groups) because of the high volume of players who tried out. If your child’s name does not appear on either list, contact us by email at directorofcoaching@hamburgsoccerclub.com and we can arrange a time for a phone call to discuss what your son/daughter can do to improve and continue to play. The kids who did not make it will be the first kids we will contact if any of the players decline to take a spot. Please do not contact us by phone until we have made arrangements ahead of time to discuss your player.
How are players chosen? 2-4 Different coaches evaluated each age group during the tryouts. The player lists are compared and cross-referenced against all of the coach’s assessments. We also contacted the players’ previous coaches (if possible) if we had any conflicts in the evaluations. On the whole, the evaluations were very close from all of the coaches. Lew Potter weighs in on all of the soccer decisions.
Ultimately the decision over who made the Gold team was up to the head coach of each team. Their selections were based on the player evaluations that were done by the observing coaches. We combine those with the head coach’s evaluations and we seek input from the players’ previous coaches if possible. Ultimately we try to get the players to the team where the individual player will have the most success. We look for soccer skill, athleticism, speed, attitude, effort, and field vision. The final thing we do when choosing is to evaluate what positions the kids will be playing. For example we can not have a team with 4 goal keepers and one team with none.
We then use the same system to select the Emerald Team.
We know that this is no consolation for the kids who were cut, but coaches at all levels lose sleep whenever they have to make cuts. It weighs heavily on our minds. We wish that there was room for everyone.
The rule this coming season for our club is: We have the right to move kids between the teams up until March 1st, 2010. This will be based on attendance, effort and improvement of play.
Thanks in advance for your anticipated support.
Lew Potter, Director of Coaching 2011 Travel Team Rosters coming soon Some players may be moved from Emerald to Gold during indoor training.
Unfortunately, there are not enough roster spots for all players trying out in some age brackets. We encourage players not on a travel team to continue playing in our recreational house league.
Indoor training will begin in early November, once the scholastic season has concluded. Some of the U10 and U12 teams will have fall training as scheduled by each individual coach. Travel soccer is designed to be more competitive than house soccer. Children who have been happy with house soccer and want play in a competitive and structured environment are encouraged to play. Our home games are played from May to July at Armor Elementary School, Blasdell Elementary School, and Lakeview Road and all away games are played within Erie and Niagara Counties. Practice sessions are once per week during the winter one to two times per week during the spring / summer. Games are sanctioned by the Buffalo Western New York Junior Soccer League. Tournament Procedures for Players
Prior to the Tournament/Game: On the evening of the tournament between 6:00-7:00pm, players should eat a balanced dinner with plenty of complex carbohydrates. Good examples include pastas and potatoes. Avoid fried and fast food. Drink plenty of juice and water. Do not drink soda!
At approximately 9:30-10:30pm (or earlier) players should be in bed attempting to fall asleep. On the first day of the tournament 3 hours before the first game, players should be awake. It takes awhile for the body and mind to get going. Approximately 2-3 hours prior to game time, players should eat a good size breakfast of mainly fruits and grains. Avoid fried food. Drink juice, and/or possibly some milk or water. No soda!
45 minutes prior to the game, players should arrive at the field. All equipment should be on and be ready to begin warming up. Do not just shoot at the goal. If you realize you will not make it to the field on time, put all of your gear on in the car so that you are ready to go as soon as you arrive. At game time you will be both physically and mentally ready to play in a highly competitive game.
In Between Games: 1. Take Off your shoes, socks and shin guards. Wear sandals if possible. Do not under any circumstance go barefooted. 2. Put on a dry t-shirt. 3. Eat lightly. There is usually not that much time between games. Make sure that you drink plenty of water. A little Gatorade is fine, but you must drink more water. No fried food, fast food, or soda! 4. Get out of the sun and heat. If you can not get inside, stay in the shade. 5. Stay off your feet! Do not run around!
**Brine Soccer Co. will have a nice display with activities, I recommend visiting/participating after your second game. Save your energy for your second game.
After the first day players should eat a balanced dinner with plenty of complex carbohydrates. Good examples include pastas and potatoes. Avoid fried and fast food. Drink plenty of juice and water. Do not drink soda! At approximately 9:30-10:30pm players should be in bed attempting to fall asleep.
On the second day of the tournament follow the same schedule as the first day. In order to keep your uniform and warm-up colors as bright as new please see the washing instructions in the left column. | Latest Updates... | |
